life as an AE: day 3 today i damn lucky cuz i left at 6:32pm!! why i say lucky? cause my colleagues all away for meeting/leave/not around so i faster took the opportunity to go home early! cuz God knows when such chances will come by again.. it is quite sucky not being able to know/even gauge what time i can leave work. start my day at 9 am, but dont know what time that day will draw to a close. sigh.. i aim to be able to manage my jobs so that i dont have to always OT, and by OT i definitely mean staying until after 830pm.. theres like zero life, and i wont be able to plan ANY outings at all with my friends, if its so unexpected or worse, routine that it will always be OT.. i rather try to be more efficient, not waste unnecessary time in the office. after all, there should be more to life than work/staying in the office. so yeah today i faster run after looking ard to avoid bumping into anyone, haha, it sounds v suspicious but i already finished my impt tasks for the day and there was technically nth i cld do cuz the designer have not done the visuals... but i din want to repeat yest's scenario of me planning to leave le and then kenna arrowed to stay back. somemore the people there like have no sense of urgency to leave like that, ma chiam they 1) love their job/the office deep deep, 2) they have no else to go (aka no life outside of work), 3) they have tons to do... oh well... just keep my fingers crossed ba.. and start to get used to the idea of working from at least 9-7pm. boo! plus i do feel stressed already thinking of the 3 clients (but possibly with 5-10 projects each) that i will have to juggle. being an AE is like a chaser/nanny (Chase client, chase designer), ah long (collect debts and push debts to clients), and a half-creative brain.. in this company, its not just doing ads but its machiam like taking 10 of my CS332 campaign programming/planning module sia... alot of campaigns, promotions then thk of themes and ideas.. but all will be rejected by client, this cannot, that cannot, budget too low, too difficult to execute, blah... argggh finally got to see my darling today, and maybe its true that absence does makes the heart grow fonder. haha today he did this super funny act, i shall describe it as the squirming cockroach drinking water with funky finger act. it was so funny i rolled off the bed when he was doing that. haha but that deep laughter helped me momentarily forget the stress. anyway i saw this superb, terribly well-written paragraph by Hadley Freeman "Some trends slip down easily with the masses: tunic dresses, oversize sunglasses, giant It bags. And then there are trends that only appeal to those who wear fashion goggles, those amazing glasses that make the implausible look desirable—magically morphing, say, dresses with stiffened, puffed shoulders from an alien's version of eighties shoulder pads into a gorgeous mix of modernism and retro referencing. Ugly shoes fall squarely into this latter category. Shoes that look like Transformers, shoes with teapots for heels, shoes with no apparent heels, and the ugliest (and currently most fashionable) of them all: gladiator sandals—fabulously casual to the fashion-goggle wearer, orthopedic and/or geriatric to everyone else." i think i don a pair of fashion googles, not saying i am fashionable, but because i think that the 2nd sentence really applies to me.. haha.. those googles make me adore or love certain stuff that most people will balk at or think its super impractical. though i am not the only one donning such fashion googles that makes the rest of the crowd think we have weird tastes, but i guess i am particularly different when it comes to the admiration of shoes. will post examples very soon. goodbye or see you, I'll be your best kept secret or your biggest mistake. life as an account executive: day 2 start work 9 am end work 11+pm dinner time 830pm meal allowance $5 + cab fee = i rather end work earlier sigh, i better start getting used to working life. its my biggest mistake to say that i rather work than be a student haha. i went to google 'life as an AE' and got this article. pretty much sums up for me One fine day in the life of an account executive - http://www.jammag.com/careers/n/showart.php?art_id=81 the job is not glamourous and ultimately we are responsible for the bottomline plus long hours becuz its always about fast & furious, lifespan of each job may be very short, and deadlines are our best friend. (thats why i want the Deadline is over tee from UNIQLO haha.) but perks is that you get to see creative works, and it can be a fun time.. its just the 2nd day, and probably too soon to make any decision whether it suits me etc. guess i just have to keep an open mind, and see how it goes.. 走一步,看一步. on a side note, my company is still looking for AEs, so if anyone is interested to be my colleague, can apply to suffer with me haha. i guess, this is really called growing up overnight. going on more about it just makes it feel more dreadful, so i shall just save comments for later, when i am more into it, and not so lost. i miss seeing my darling definitely, and the freedom to do whatever i want during daytime.. now i finally understand why darling always say make more $$ so that we can get out of the rat race and do what we want to enjoy life, i see the logic behind it all... so lets work hard/smart. whichever will help us get more $$. goodbye or see you, I'll be your best kept secret or your biggest mistake. Working life – day 1 Today i went to a TVC cum photography shoot for one of my-to-be client, it was quite an eye-opener, for I have never been to one of these real shoots before However much of the time we were pretty much waiting for the crew to get ready and prepare these and that, before the real shoot. It was a shoot for one of the fast-food brands that I am sure all of us have had eaten before, at one point of our lives – but its definitely not my favourite nor often-patronised fast-food restaurants, I guessed it could be because in secondary school, I once felt nauseous after eating at this particular fast-food restaurant and from then on, I think I never (never willingly, at least) ate there again, also cuz I don’t fancy their menu that much. Those who know me well will know that this fast-food brand (FFB, in short) is not MOS burger, haha, cuz God knows how much I love MOS burger. One hint is that this fast-food brand serves different type of food from Mac, and BK. Hah. But anyway, the MD of this FFB was also there personally, I was quite stunned cuz usually I thoughtthat these kinda ‘small’ marketing efforts will be handled by just the rep or sth.. but apparently, the client is quite particular (or meticulous, whichever way u like to see it) about the food shots. All the food were prepared there by this food stylist (haha just like fashion stylish) and then styled (duh) according to our brief/client’s wants. I was told again and again that this food stylish is the best in sg, and indeed she was really patient and professional about it. prior to today, I never really thought that people put in so much thought or effort into ‘arranging’ the food so that they look damn appealing and tasty for the TVC haha, and I din really know that there was such a job called food stylist. I think her pay should be quite high sincethere probably isn’t that many such experts ard. So anyway we were at the studio from like 11am to 4plus? And then returned to the office… and now I am just waiting for our AE (account executive) team meeting at 7pm. Boohoo..If there was like proper work for me to do at least I don’t feel so hungry and draggy now, but oh well I guess it takes time for me to learn the ropes before my nice colleagues can hand over the accounts to me. Yep, so far the colleagues that I met are really nice and down-to-earth, even the guy whom i-thk-is-some-big-shot, so its great. I din get the chance to like bio the entire office cuz our AE team is pretty much secluded haha, and separated from the designers by this big bookshelve cum packaging storeroom, but the look & feel so far is similar to Design Bridge, but much less atas lah. And from what I have observed for my job scope, its pretty similar to DB, except that IMG does much more marketing stuff, like ads and promotions, whereas DB’s focus was really just packaging. i m thankful for the internship I had before, cuz at least I don’t feel totally lost when my colleague mentions those industry terms like FA (final artwork), proofing etc.. and I think the work process here is a little more fuss-free than DB, in terms of the so-called admin/work templates for each new job. The differences I have seen so far are minor, like different names for the same thing. it feels really surreal - the day i was so looking forward to, the day that i finally start working full-time permanently, it feels like, someone has just robbed me. :( (my first day today, and i left at 8 PM!!) i feel excited in a way, yet i feel like i lost all the freedom, time and slack that i took for granted for the past 4 years as a undergrad, esp the last sem, with just one module and FYP.. looking back, even FYP probably wont have taken up that much man-hours as i forsee my job will. firstly, i am not an intern/part-timer/temp staff anymore, i have heavy responsibilities, roles to fulfill, results to obtain and prove myself... also, i will no longer enjoy free-to-do-as-i-wish weekdays, and have to sleep by 12am every night, and wake at an ungodly 7am for 5 days a week. ah... suddenly hall life seemed to be a bed of roses.. i miss staying in hall and all its perks, staying late, supper with friends, blah.. the freedom to choose not to go to lectures, or being able to nap in the evening after classes.. ahhh.... it is so true, that humans are walking contradictions, and yes, i admit now i think student life is a bliss, but at the same time, i feel good about 'growing up' and finally no more saying 'im a student', cuz sometimes that just gets u dirty looks, and little respect, or like 'oh u are still a child' mentality. so yeah, i shall have to work hard hard from now on, its time to embrace change - as it is an opportunity for growth - one of my company's 'principles' haha.. i even have a new 'identity' at work, i go by my alias valerie, so that its easier for everyone to rmb haha... so yeah, WELCOME TO MY NEXT STAGE OF LIFE........ which i hope, will be at least exciting, and explorative, to make up for the losses. lastly, a very very happy birthday to my darling =) u can join me to be forever (sweet)16. hehe. lets aim to buy the chanel bag ourselves, haha... april always brings me luck part II please read the previous post before you read this entry, to make more cow sense out of my words. the prev post was typed on 1st April but i din finish & publish it. haha. lazy me. here's the part II, which will of course update with the happenings since then. so anyway, i must explain why my title is April always brings me luck... over these years, i discovered a trend. that 'good' things always seem to fall around march/april for me.. things like the start of a relationship, knowing new people, the changing of (bad) luck/fortune, and well just nice, good things.. this year's April is also a great one. :) I kickstarted april with celebrating my 1st year anni with piggychan. hehe, we went for a movie (Horror movie 'Coming Soon' - last year when we got together, we also watched some horror movie -_-) and then dinner at NewYorkx2. i gave him this 'snake-and-ladder' memory board game that i did myself, but we have yet to play it haha. its a cute bioard with our photos as keepsake but there aint any snakes, just ladders to indicate the progress of our r/s so far.. and if the player lands on some good spot, he/me will get a freebie like free dinner or massage, but if we land on other spots, we may have to be forfeited hehe. and then piggychan actually gave me what i wanted most so far (besides a chanel bag/christian louboutins, of course) ---- a bouquet of flowers! :)) it really made me very happy plus he went the extra mile to wrap the flowers himself. it was touching and memorable for 2 reasons, 1stly he has nv given any other girls flowers and think they are redundant, but he got them for me (cuz i am MISS SPECIAL lol), and 2ndly he wrapped the flowers himself without prior flower-wrapping experience. haha i did advise him how to wrap them better next time :P based on my few years of vday flower wrapping experience during FOC hahaah.. so thank you darling for the beautiful flowers. love them dd!! moving on from the mushy talk, the next best thing (or maybe the best thing, considering the economic downturn) is that I FINALLY FOUND A ZOOOB!!! okay, so it wasnt from Design Bridge (dont ask me why??!!), nor am i highly paid to schmooze, but at least it is the type of job i was looking out for in a creative field, in an agency. and starting very soon... on 20th April (also happen to be noel's bday), i will be starting work as an account executive at Impetus Mktg Grp.. but that means, i have less than 3 days after my final exam this thurs to enjoy post-graduation. sob. but still i am thankful that i managed to schmooze my way in, with almost zero real working experience as a fresh grad. maybe it just happened that the other interviewees were more substandard than me wahah. but yeah, the quick end to my job-hunting really put to rest my stressed mind and finances. add to that, MOE was kind enough to delay our repayment for study loans for one year.. i just hope that everything will go smoothly at my workplace.. that the env is conducive, and the people will be friendly and nice, and not some scary backstabbers. until next week.... then today was our fyp's presentation. surprisingly, the Q&A went pretty well, i guess our supervisor and 2 moderators were all really nice to us, and didnt harp too much on the weaker part of our campaign. it was delightful to know that they tot our ideas were great but too bad we cldnt carry them out the way we wanted, and i think they were pretty impressed that 3 of us juggled so many roles and successfully executed the run that attracted many first-time IWD participants! yay. hope that we can at least get a B+ lah, for our 3-women team hardwork, i think i am really proud to say that we conducted this inaugural IWD run :) it also marks the end of our FYP (more or less), as well as the very last day that i would be at that very place i so wanted to be, 4 years ago.. the sch catered a free buffet lunch for us year 4 students so it was also the final time so many of us gathered at the same place, sharing the same module called FYP. haha... so me, ET and ST decided to take silly cranky photos.. it was so spastic that i think people were giving us weird looks. haha, n we also got kenneth chia to help us take photos.. and it reminded me of back in year 2 when me & him took pics tog aft our tedious video editing project. oh my, those photos, haha i really look very different then & now. same for him, think his style is more toned down now, thankfully :P tho i dont know that many ppl in sch, but i think he's one of those ppl whom i will still contact in future aft we graduate.. who knows, we might be in the same agency someday haha.. he can be the eccentric copywriter who demands his $2.00 worth of fruits everyday. LOL. Being in SCI, i wouldnt say it was v memorable since i wasnt close to most of my sch mates but well if ever our paths cross again in this small industry, i hope that we will all be civil and nice to each other haha.. but looking back I think i will agree that the 4 years of uni life was enriching and memorable thanks to hall life.. it is as if, school was my cca, whilst i was there to experience hall life 24/7. if i hadnt stayed in hall, i wouldnt have known so many new friends (heck i think i wont even have friends in school, cuz my friends in school are all from hall like siting, shuwan they all).. if i hadnt stayed in hall, i bet my life would have been less colorful, and without so many photos and memories to rmb these past 4 years by. it would have been a slow and painful 4 years of dreadful studying.. i think hall life was really one of those once-u-experienced-you-will-not-regret chapters of my life. i definitely miss staying in hall 12 with my roomie.. and the late nights, the suppertimes, the freedom, and believe it anot, i miss the shower and laundry facilities!!! (cuz i dont have to pay for them and can use frequently!!).. just now noel also said something to me which surprised me, and it was also really touching. he said that he will make enough money to buy me a chanel bag haahaha... i was taken back cuz he always said that its not justifiable or understandable why women will be willing to spend so much on bags/shoes/clothes.. and that we shd just buy fake chanels and wear it like the real thing. so naturally i asked him if he really meant it..and he said anything to make me happy.. :)) i mean its not so much being happy knowing i will get my chanel bag dunno-when years down the road, but i was elated knowing that he had that thought/impulse to want to buy me something that i love, just because he wants me to be happy. so i quickly said 'but u cannot go chanel and buy the bag without me hor'. cause i want to be able to go in there and walk out of the store armed wiith their paper bag with the much loved brand new sparkling bag inside!!! lol, thats why it cannot be a surprise buy. must hold my head high go in to buy, and come out with a big smirk to the other ladies standing nearby. *i must be crazy haha..i might as well say next time i buy Christian louboutins in 5 inches and i wear them out of the store to tower over other women!!* alright i suppose this post is most updated! :D i am bursting to post my recent fashion addictions.. as well as my dream phone! for the next posttttttt. and i must revive this dead blog of mine. goodbye or see you, I'll be your best kept secret or your biggest mistake. [backdated post]april always brings me luck... well, i have been away for the longest! so sorry if you clicked to read faithfully everyday but you see the same paragraph of words staring back at you. i have been, honestly, too lazy + partly too busy over the last 1.5 months to blog. in the quickest blink of an eye, my fyp event is over. but i wont forget the late nights, trying to pack 600 goodie bags in 1 night with only 2 people and then an additional unfortunate helper aka my bf, and the crazy mad moving of cartons and cartons of goodie bags, water, and loads of God knows what, and the anxiety the night before..the loads of registration forms, the setting up and clearing up, the heavy run that crashed upon us 30 mins after the flag-off... and how we ended up shivering under the tentage (thank God we had them!), all afraid of being struck by the treacherous lightning that struck a nearby lamp-post moments ago and caused the downfall of a tree infront of Sheng Siong supermarket. it was a good turn-out, we had almost 600 signed up, and thankfully we did not cause SCWO to suffer any loses by organising our crazy idea of an IWD run.. I do think that, a run is really useful in introducing the masses to the idea of celebrating IWD every year.. the appeal of a run is greater than a Power Lunch in my opinion... esp when we are talking about trying to get everyone, men inclusive, and whether literate or not. and then of course after the IWD run, we had to rest and then struggled to complete our report, which we failed to hand up on time, so probably will get 5 marks deducted. As long as they pass us, i am happy. the last lap, which i think might be the worst, is the presentation in 2 weeks time. i think the Q&A part might trip us all into a tangled mess. how do we justify our calling our project a campaign when there's zero message, and zero media coverage. we sound more like event organiser. hopefully they can give us some sympathy points for organising such a massive event. like the chinese saying goes, 没有功劳,也有苦劳。haha... the next thing that is worth a mention is the fact that i have moved out of hall, for good... :( i still remember the 1st day i was there... and then that day, my last night... it was the hall appreciation night. my very last hall 12 event. i put my 'Friends don't let friends talk to ugly guys' shirt into the time capsule.. haa... this shirt has fond memories.. of those year 2 days with CSBS.. i always disturb roland by telling the rest not to talk to him... :D then he always give me this 'want-to-kill' look. and then after going back to hall, and watching them play some MJ, shujing, shuwan, me, and roland decided to go on our hall 12 phototaking session... we went to all the places that we could possibly think of... starting with our fav, super memorable, 60 benches, and then the 60 tv lounge where we mugged and sloughed, and the pantry, laundry room where we tried to promote the washing machines, and also the amphitheatre.. ignorant (or choosing to ignore) the curious stares from other passerbys, we did stupid things!! like pose alphabets with our body.. there were 4 of us.. so we did YMCA, LOVE, CSBS, F*CK, and then NITE. haha.. i did them into GIFs, its super funny... will try to pose some of the photos here... i think we wandered like 2 hours around hall taking those photoso lor.. haha... i think that some of my best memories in life really came from staying in hall 12.. and the best year was definitely in year 2, when we had CSBS, and later on, BC club.. going to JB to eat seafood, drinking watermelon juice and loads of laughter over dinner every night, tickling and scheming each other, ponding other people (i was very lucky not to kenna throughout my 4 years hehe), and those insane drinking bday sessions... those were the days... we were damn close... and of course not forgetting the times i served in various positions in FOC comm... the most fun one was the time i was Vice chair with Kyon and ruifang being the chair.. it was tiring, arguesome, tedious but a memorable and close experience... i still rmb the time 3 of us were meeting in RF's room and i was feeling unwell, then i said i felt nauseous and want to go toilet vomit, then kyon said this 'aiyoooh, why u never borrow (condom) from me?' LOL.. it was damn hilarious... roll eyes...well, i will always remember the times in hall 12, even though i will nv be staying there again... from my cheerleading days, my social sub comm days, my acp days, my csbs days, to being a 'hotel-stayer', and watching 24 in his room with darling... and the last day when he helped me move out... and of course i am most sad cannot be roomie with wenxin le! something that i took for granted for 4 years.. the fact that she was just behind me/beside me every night... i think she cld be my sister le.. haha.. cuz even me and my sister cannot room together one... it was like staying in a permanent chalet tog... can talk to her as and when i want... but i know our friendship will not change despite us not being roomies le.. we are best friends 1st, roomies 2nd :D You should possess:
