Working life – day 1

Today i went to a TVC cum photography shoot for one of my-to-be client, it was quite an eye-opener, for I have never been to one of these real shoots before

However much of the time we were pretty much waiting for the crew to get ready and prepare these and that, before the real shoot. It was a shoot for one of the fast-food brands that I am sure all of us have had eaten before, at one point of our lives – but its definitely not my favourite nor often-patronised fast-food restaurants, I guessed it could be because in secondary school, I once felt nauseous after eating at this particular fast-food restaurant and from then on, I think I never (never willingly, at least) ate there again, also cuz I don’t fancy their menu that much. Those who know me well will know that this fast-food brand (FFB, in short) is not MOS burger, haha, cuz God knows how much I love MOS burger.

One hint is that this fast-food brand serves different type of food from Mac, and BK. Hah. But anyway, the MD of this FFB was also there personally, I was quite stunned cuz usually I thoughtthat these kinda ‘small’ marketing efforts will be handled by just the rep or sth.. but apparently, the client is quite particular (or meticulous, whichever way u like to see it) about the food shots. All the food were prepared there by this food stylist (haha just like fashion stylish) and then styled (duh) according to our brief/client’s wants. I was told again and again that this food stylish is the best in sg, and indeed she was really patient and professional about it. prior to today, I never really thought that people put in so much thought or effort into ‘arranging’ the food so that they look damn appealing and tasty for the TVC haha, and I din really know that there was such a job called food stylist. I think her pay should be quite high sincethere probably isn’t that many such experts ard.

So anyway we were at the studio from like 11am to 4plus? And then returned to the office… and now I am just waiting for our AE (account executive) team meeting at 7pm. Boohoo..If there was like proper work for me to do at least I don’t feel so hungry and draggy now, but oh well I guess it takes time for me to learn the ropes before my nice colleagues can hand over the accounts to me. Yep, so far the colleagues that I met are really nice and down-to-earth, even the guy whom i-thk-is-some-big-shot, so its great. I din get the chance to like bio the entire office cuz our AE team is pretty much secluded haha, and separated from the designers by this big bookshelve cum packaging storeroom, but the look & feel so far is similar to Design Bridge, but much less atas lah. And from what I have observed for my job scope, its pretty similar to DB, except that IMG does much more marketing stuff, like ads and promotions, whereas DB’s focus was really just packaging. i m thankful for the internship I had before, cuz at least I don’t feel totally lost when my colleague mentions those industry terms like FA (final artwork), proofing etc.. and I think the work process here is a little more fuss-free than DB, in terms of the so-called admin/work templates for each new job. The differences I have seen so far are minor, like different names for the same thing.

it feels really surreal - the day i was so looking forward to, the day that i finally start working full-time permanently, it feels like, someone has just robbed me. :( (my first day today, and i left at 8 PM!!) i feel excited in a way, yet i feel like i lost all the freedom, time and slack that i took for granted for the past 4 years as a undergrad, esp the last sem, with just one module and FYP.. looking back, even FYP probably wont have taken up that much man-hours as i forsee my job will. firstly, i am not an intern/part-timer/temp staff anymore, i have heavy responsibilities, roles to fulfill, results to obtain and prove myself... also, i will no longer enjoy free-to-do-as-i-wish weekdays, and have to sleep by 12am every night, and wake at an ungodly 7am for 5 days a week. ah... suddenly hall life seemed to be a bed of roses.. i miss staying in hall and all its perks, staying late, supper with friends, blah.. the freedom to choose not to go to lectures, or being able to nap in the evening after classes.. ahhh.... it is so true, that humans are walking contradictions, and yes, i admit now i think student life is a bliss, but at the same time, i feel good about 'growing up' and finally no more saying 'im a student', cuz sometimes that just gets u dirty looks, and little respect, or like 'oh u are still a child' mentality. so yeah, i shall have to work hard hard from now on, its time to embrace change - as it is an opportunity for growth - one of my company's 'principles' haha..

i even have a new 'identity' at work, i go by my alias valerie, so that its easier for everyone to rmb haha... so yeah, WELCOME TO MY NEXT STAGE OF LIFE........ which i hope, will be at least exciting, and explorative, to make up for the losses.

lastly, a very very happy birthday to my darling =) u can join me to be forever (sweet)16. hehe. lets aim to buy the chanel bag ourselves, haha...

goodbye or see you,
I'll be your best kept secret or your biggest mistake.
