Growing old is scary!

my goodness, today i went to a home for the aged sick tog w interact club. at first i thot it was gg to b quite sian, but it turned out to b real sad. most of the elderly are wheelchair bounded, there r however some of them who were still cheerful despite their age. most of them range b/w 70-90. there was however a single case that touched me n my frenz so much that we cried.

sy & i saw a old lady walking along d corridor n stopped to tok to her, thking she was a resident of the home. goodness, she was not! in fact, she came to visit her mum who was, hold your breath, 101 years old... that kinda surprised me as i have nv met some1 so old before. the old lady was 70+ herself already and stil had to tk care of her mother who suffered a stroke. so i went in to tok to the older woman, and it was v sad. bcuz after warming up to me, she brought out her slippers wic were behind her pillow, wore them n kept taking my hand and asking me to take her home. she kept wanting to step down from her bed, but cld nt do so as she was tied to the bed.

at first i felt it was absolute cruelty to tie a old person up, but i realise some of them really nid to be tied up, if not they'll run away to duno where. it was a very helpless sight, both she n me. as i cldnt tk her home, and she cldnt go anywhere she wants. eventually, i had to leave and her pleas continued to her daughter. she cant recog who is who. life is so sad when u r so old n abandoned. at least she stil has family, but how long is she gg to suffer? i kinda hope i would die b4 i turned into such a useless and helpless fellow. its really tragic to be lying on a bed, facing the ceiling and 4 walls, having to wear pampers and cant even turn ur body to a more comfy position. life is really sad when one gets old. is it true tat 'lao le mei zhong yong'?

haiz, i m so afraid of getting old, perhaps i shd just live till 60 or 70, at least healthily and nt b a burden to others. i am also fearful that my parents mite suffer such a fate some day. but *touch wood* so everyone, pls treasure ur parents and treat them well, dont wait til the day when they cant even recog who u r, den u start to regret! think abt it!

Signing out,
c'est la vie & life goes on...
